we used to have a persian cat and he would get matts alot but if there too tight and too many of them u will have too cut them off but brushing him should get rid of them eventulley if u do it everyday and u have to keep brushing it everyday once or twice a day for a few minitues.

I like combing because it gets down to the skin instead of just brushing the hair on top.
