You should groom your cat at least every day so it wont get matts.

Use a special cat comb with rotating teeth.

You could give the cats a bath and use tangle free rinse. Use a big toothed comb. Good luck.

One way is to use a spritz or liquid conditioner for your cat(some require bathing some don't.)

If that doesn't work, you really should cut them out because ***matted fur WILL cause serious health risks and skin sensitivity. ***

To prevent the fur from getting matted again, use the conditioner every week and brush her every day.

Then again, you can just keep her hair cut short so it will be less likely to knot.

It really depends on how matted, shaving out is much safer than cutting it out with scissors, cats have such thin skin that brushing a matt out although doable would be severley painful.

Have you tried Johnson's Baby "No More Tangles" or conditioner?

You just spray it on the matts and work it in and they should comb out. Your cat needs more frequent brushing.

persian cats need to be groomed every day. this prevents matting of hair. i would just start brushing the cat every day.

The best advice I can give you is, in the cat's current condition, let a professional pet groomer clean up your cat, then establish a regular grooming routine at home to keep the mats away. The groomer can cut the mats out and cut the hair short so it will be easier to handle. Then, you need to brush or comb your cat every day! I like combing because it gets down to the skin instead of just brushing the hair on top. You can pick the mats out, but it can be painful and your cat will NOT appreciate it so I'd definiltey call a groomer and see what they can do for you.

Also, do NOT bathe your cat until you get the mats out. Wetting them will only cause the mats to get tighter and harder to get out. When the groomer cuts them out, they will use clippers not scissors to avoid cutting your cat's skin.

You can cut the mats in half (not cut off the whole thing, its too easy to get skin), then over the next 3 or 4 days comb or brush the rest out. Slowly but surely you can get rid of them, and then when they're gone be sure to keep kitty brushed every day.
