nothing wrong with a simple cut. I go with a fade, number 3 on the side, about 2 inches on top...with a little water, it styles well.

Not sure how much length he has to work with? but a just below jaw length bob is very stylish and sexy, It is easy to maintain and looks great on almost everyone.(male and female) If his hair is not that long yet, a stacked (po-bob) (aka victoria beckham's new bob) would look good while it is growing it out.
