Cut puppy when cutting hair?

I was cutting a small mat out of my puppy about 20 minutes ago (probably a dumb idea in the first place) on his knee area. I accidentally cut his skin and put a little gash in it. It's not bleeding but it got red like it was about to bleed but not enough blood came out to even make a drop. It didn't phase him or anything, he's running around just fine. Do I need to worry about anything, I know that animals in the wild get way way worse injuries than this but I just feel bad for cutting the little guy. Is everything fine, am i just overreacting?

Some antibiotic ointment like Neosporin on it would be a good idea, and keep an eye on it to make sure it doesn't get infected. And next time, please take your pup to a groomer. We always use clippers to shave mats off if they cannot be dematted; never try to cut off with scissors, as you have seen the results firsthand. :)

IF he didn't over react to it I wouldn't either. I would put some antibacterial ointment on it though, just so it heals the skin faster and scars less. He might try to lick it off though , my dogs are attracted to oinment , I just tell them no when I see them lick at it until it has a chance to sit for a bit then they will probably lick it off when your not looking either way it's not a big deal.

I did exactly the same thing to an elderly cat we used to have (she died of old age eventually), except I cut a piece out of her neck while cutting out a tangle of matted hair with scissors . When my wife got home, I was still so upset that I started crying when I told her about it. We took the cat to the veterinary emergency room, and they glued the edges of the skin back together with the medical version of Super Glue. They said that animals have a higher pain threshold than people. They said to keep an eye on the cut, keep it clean, don't put any medication on it. The cut healed, just as they said it would, but I still felt bad and always took her to a groomer after that when she got matted hair.

i have a little 6 pound dog named max, if your dog running a round fine then just let him be and check on it in a couple days or so, if you bother him adout it he's going to get mad at you. trust me, dogs don't mind if thay get cuts, sure thay don't like it at first but thay forget and move on. but if it does bleed it's no big deal just run a little warm water over it and wash it with soap.

puppy is fine, probably just a blood blister, puppies are also very forgiving. should the blister break might want to put anti biotic cream on it to ward off infection. other wise forgive yourself and give pup extra loving.
