My hair is long and I got it cut too short once. Some people think it's crazy but hey, what can it hurt (and I think it works). Buy an Almanac -- it has the dates in there of the best days to get your hair cut for growth (which is what you want to do) and it also lists the days to get your hair cut to stunt growth (YOU DON'T WANT to get a haircut on these days -- my mom does though, so her hair won't grow so fast).

The other thing I did, and it sucks but there must be something about it, rinse your hair (after you're done in the shower, you've already rinsed out the conditioner or whatever) rinse your hair with cool or cold water. Something about the elasticity or something when you comb it, the cold water helps. (it seem like it's getting longer, anyway)

Also, I know it doesn't make any sense, but you have to get your hair cut regularly -- at least every 3-4 months. Just the tiniest trim -- keep the damaged ends trimmed. If you have split ends, your hair may be growing, but you don't see that it is growing because the split ends just break off, making your hair shorter -- if you trim these off, then they can't break off short.

Another thing is, when you dry your hair, don't scruff it up, or rub violently, just squeeze it, wrap it, let it soak into the towel, then get another dry towel. The rubbing is damaging to your hair, and whenever possible, let your hair dry naturally (without a hair dryer). I wash mine at night and style it in the mornings.

Also, it will grow back. A haircut can't cause your hair to stop growing. I can sure relate to slow growing hair, though. Try to find different ways to style it, and have the stylist that cut it for you help you with products and styling ideas, so you can at least feel good about your hair.
