Can anyone tell me where to get my hair cut for locks of love in San Francisco?

Locks of love is a public non-profit organization that provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children under age 18 suffering from long-term medical hair loss from any diagnosis. The locks of love website no longer has a list of participating salons. It says I can go to my local stylist but I don't really have a local stylist and I want to get my hair cut for free. Any suggestions ?

Donating your hair doesn't necessarily make it free; I donated at a salon in Fremont, and still had to pay for the haircut.

I'd say your best bet is to either do it yourself from home and send it in, or break out the phone book and starting calling local salons in the area. Good luck!

I'm not sure if perhaps it would fall under the classification of trichtillomania or if it's its own disorder, or if it doesn't even have a name or what, but I'd love to know. It's something I've struggled with for years and would like to know more about the actual condition - and I'm fairly certain that it is a condition. I've tried to google the answer and didn't come up with much of anything, so I'd sure like to know if there's a name for this.

It could be related to Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. You should try googling that, and also check out the library, or drug stores for pamphlets on OCD. I know that hair PULLING definitely is an OCD issue.

There is treatment for psychological disorders of this type, whatever names they go by.

No. that is very very difficult to maintain. That has so much product in it you would have to spend more than an hour--with a lot of gel, spray, hairdryer, straightner and different brushes. Wow--thats at least an hour and a half work each day to get that. And my hair is thick so it would fall out instantly.

and if you didnt spend all that time to make it stand out like that, it wouldnt fall like layers would. it would just look choppy.

I'd go for something more Mandy Moore--that has the same razor all over the place look, but the layers fall a lot prettier.

Not if you don't have the time. Just style it nicely and if you are older make sure you are clean shaven, you'll do just fine. If she doesn't like you for you then she is not worth the haircut anyways.

if you mean his very short buzzed haircut..that was done with a special buzzer..which allows about 3/4 inches of length...

and the look is finished with scissors...

Since you have very curly hair, you should cut it, but only a bit shorter than shoulder length. If you have a round face, up to your chin would be ok. Oval face, shoulder length.

I think you should go to a wig shop and try on a wig that is the style and length of the haircut you want.

When you get your hair shortened, it will be a lot curler, so you need to consider that.

Keep in mind that the shorter curly hair is, the poofier it gets. If you're going to do it, make sure you get it cut DRY, not wet, and make sure your stylist knows how to shape curly hair! Otherwise you could end up with anything from a triangle head to a 'fro!

I have thick hair and I have that haircut. I've worn this haircut for a while and even had it when I was in high school years ago. Just be sure to ask your hairdresser to be sure she does a lot of thinning while she is stacking it in the back because you want to make sure you do not end up with "mushroom head"...lol -- That's what I call it. But, yeah, it's doable and it's very easy to maintain!

Notice other women's hairstyles. Then approach them, complementing them. Ask where and who cuts their hair. I have done this many times, especially after moving to a new area. Women WILL respond, and I have found some of the best, and least expensive, stylists in the US this way. Having lived all over the country, finding a good stylist is just as important as finding a good doctor, dentist, mechanic and plumber! This has always worked for me!

My advice to people is always this: When you see someone who has hair that you envy ask them where they have their hair done. When you hear the same salon or stylist's name several times........that's the one!

at the moment it is very long and straight, is very fine but heavy so i don't tend to get much volume in the roots, i am thinking of getting it cut to my shoulders and having layers put in, it needs to be long enough to put into a pony tail for work, my hair is dark brown and i am 23 so don't want an older style. any other suggestions? and i ahve tried perms in the past, they do not suit me, thanks for any advice.

1. Have it cut like the "shag" which was a style back in the 70s and 80s. It is modified now, and you can see in hair styling magazines it is versatile, and can be cut to compliment your face shape.

2.What I like, is to pick your length, part it in the middle, and have it all one length, with bangs, depending on shape of face. The good thing about this style is

a. It is so neat and smoothe

b. If you don't like it, you can get it layered

c. But if it is layered first, you have to wait for it to grow to do this.

that is completely false. dye dyes your hair (hence the name) and cutting your hair will not affect it at all. what you may have heard is that if you begin to grow out your dyed hair and the top half of your hair is natural and the bottom half is dyed then you can cut of the dyed bits and make your hair natural again, but that is completely logical. i hope this makes sense!

I was cutting a small mat out of my puppy about 20 minutes ago (probably a dumb idea in the first place) on his knee area. I accidentally cut his skin and put a little gash in it. It's not bleeding but it got red like it was about to bleed but not enough blood came out to even make a drop. It didn't phase him or anything, he's running around just fine. Do I need to worry about anything, I know that animals in the wild get way way worse injuries than this but I just feel bad for cutting the little guy. Is everything fine, am i just overreacting?

When my wife got home, I was still so upset that I started crying when I told her about it. They said that animals have a higher pain threshold than people. They said to keep an eye on the cut, keep it clean, don't put any medication on it. umm how about you take the front of your hair and pin it back, to do the "poof" look. aha. i'm not sure what it's called but you poof up the part your pulling back and you put it in a bobby pin and spray it with hair spray. i think it would look really cute :) besides that i have no idea's. you should take a picture of your hair and you'd probably get more answers.

This got me thinking about doing this myself at home. Anyone have any experience with using clippers on thier own hair? I'm interested in saving the time/expense of going to the barber and I'm not affraid to make a mistake or two.

am not sure if you wanted something dramatic or something different. but whatever you do don't ever get highlights that are too light then your own hair color. it looks too fake and weird. always go a shade or two lighter than your own to make it look like you have naturally radiant hair. the colors would also pop out when the sun comes out.

Hi there. I need some help with deciding what kind of haircut i should get. I'll tell you want i told my 6 yr old daughter, they are just jealous of your beautiful hair. If you want to keep it long just go in for your regular trims to keep it looking really healthy and tell them that it dont matter if they like it you do and they should respect that. My 6 yr old is the only one in her grade that has hair thats practically to her bottom, every other girl has hair shoulder length or shorter and they have been trying to get her to cut it since kindergarten (shes in 1st now) I simply just told her that its not getting cut just because her friends want her with short hair, and when she is old enough to pay for her haircuts then she can do what she pleases with it, but until then i deal with the brushing and doing it and im happy with it long so it stays long. And for some people they would love to have long hair, me especially, mine stops growing once it hits the shoulder blades, no matter if i keep it healthy or do nothing to it. Depending on the length, I too, love long hair, and am growing it out REAL long. It's got quite a nice length to it... but if you have split ends, get then trimmed. People don't realize, but hair can be really nice when really long, IF maintained, and that includes getting an inch or two cut off to keep it healthy. I have this 'fear' of haircuts, so I can understand the fear of someone telling you to get it cut and such. But honestly, hair needs to e cut once in awhile. And since it grows on an average of half an inch a month, it'll grow back in no time.

I've seen women with hair down to their ankles, and it's just not so hot looking. It gets thinner at the end and eventually disappears, and like, a good trim every so often would help reduce that!

I can almost picture your hair, because it sounds like mine, get a ceramic hair stratener to control the frizzy ends, I bet you don't have that much split ends, it is probably just uncontrolable/frizzy, I always would trim my hair thinking it was split ends, or looks dry, but when I looked at what I cut off, I would get mad because it was healthy hair. I also recommend using a dime size of conditoner when your hair is wet and leaving it in. I also use the ceramic stratener when my hair is still damp, this way I don't burn it. I think it also seals in moisture. years ago I did the same with hot rollers and curling Irons. It makes your hair look smooth. I'm 40, and I notice the older I get my hair does change and I need to change my way of caring for it. You need to have a talk with your friend. also if you have a husband or a boyfriend, ask him what he thinks, majority of men prefer long hair.

It might not. It's not the process of cutting it that causes the hair to be straight, it's just that sometimes the babies "first hair" (for lack of a better term) is curly, and once that's gone their actual hair is straight.

That happened with both of my daughters who had adorable curls at first.

Telling them they have to do something because that is what everybody else is doing is not sending a very good message for the future when it later will be regarding something that really does matter - like drugs. It's just a hair cut and it will grow back. My daughter's hair is long again now - she is 9. I will say, that I prefer it long. I have always had long hair and I like it better for a girl too. A lot of women/girls have short hair and it is preference. Magazines and commercialism say that women should be thin too - but I don't have my daughter on a strict diet to make sure she conforms to society and their expectations.

I'll tell you why my parents did it with my sisters and I-little girls hair gets so tangled!! You wouldn't believe how tangled it gets; practically matted overnight. Having the hair short keeps it neat and easy to take care of!!!

Honestly I think that because the girls hair gets tangled and gum gets stuck in the hair bed head and the such, some parentss have just become too lazy to brush all that hair or sit there getting the gum out etc. Some parents are also working alot and do not have the time but if u do not have time to fix their hair u rnt spending enough tie with them in general LOL... Ok, I am in serious need of a haircut, and i refuse to cut it short because i look really dumb with short hair

Nice choice, lol thats what im like whenever i go in the hairdressers, i usally find a picture of the hairstyle i want and cut it out to show the hair dressers, or have a look in one of thei hair magazines and pick out the style you want. Good luck!

i just got my hair cut and i wanted to know that if there was other ways to style it. it's spikey in the back the kinda long(with bangs) in the front. but i dont want to wear it the same way everyday. so i was hopeing that there was some one who could help me. -Cede Lyn

Unfortunately, it's difficult to do much with it because it's so short in the back. I bought a thin scarf from hottopic that i use as a headband. It keeps the longer parts away from my face so it looks short all over. It's a way to dress-down the look, definitely not something to wear for a wedding or something. I bought a lot of headbands too, like to Scunci No-Slip so they won't pop off my head because there's not a lot of hair in the back. Sometimes I take just the bangs and longer hairs in the front and clip them back into a half-up/half-down do. I find with this cut I have to do something with it everyday because a ponytail isn't an option.

I always use Pantene Texturize Wax Mousse to work through the different styles though
